Padel has found a natural home in Bangkok. The sport is quick to pick up, sociable by design and played in doubles, which makes it easy to fit a match around a working week in the city. Padel is played in doubles on an enclosed glass court, so every booking needs four players. The scoring follows tennis and the walls are in play, so rallies last longer and newcomers can enjoy a proper game from their first session. Court sessions typically run for 60, 90 or 120 minutes.

Two things shape padel life in Bangkok. The first is the weather: the rainy season makes indoor courts valuable. The second is timing: evenings are the busiest period, so booking ahead for weekday nights and weekends is sensible.

Pad Thai Padel Rama 4 is Bangkok's first premium padel club. It sits at 3249 Rama IV Road in Khlong Toei and is open from 08:00 to 23:00 every day. There are three courts, two indoor and one outdoor, so you can play under cover during the rainy months and outside on a clear evening.

The design borrows from the tennis clubs of the seventies and eighties and pairs that retro feel with contemporary architecture. Off court there is food and drink, from fresh salads and pressed sandwiches to craft beers and natural wines, plus outdoor yoga classes and ice baths for recovery. There are two ways to book a court in Bangkok. The first is The Padel Society app, available on iOS and Android, which lets you book courts and coaching, join events and track your level. The second is the web checkout at book.getsetpoint.io, handy if you are visiting and would rather not install anything.

A court booking covers all four players, so one person usually books and the group splits the cost. Rackets and balls can be rented at the club, so you only need non-marking court shoes.

The Bangkok academy is led by Head Coach Jose Mouliaa, a former professional player who reached number 69 on Premier Padel and number 76 on the World Padel Tour. He is joined by Eli Estrada, an APPT Grand Slam winner and female professional. Adrian Ronco, the academy's pro player, competes on the Premier Padel circuit.

Coaching is organised in three ways. Monthly plans start with Essential at 4,500 THB for four 90-minute group sessions, move up to Growth at 9,500 THB, which adds two individual lessons and two video analyses, and top out with Performance at 14,500 THB, which includes three individual lessons and a physical conditioning session. Credit packs valid for three months suit irregular schedules: the Starter Pack is 12,500 THB and the Pro Pack is 32,000 THB.
