APPT at Pad Thai Padel: the Bangkok Open and the Grand Slam

Twice in twelve months the Asia Pacific Padel Tour has set up its centre court on Rama IV Road. The APPT Bangkok Open in February 2025 was the tour's first Open-level tournament in the city. The Pad Thai Padel Grand Slam in January 2026 was bigger again, with an international field and a US$13,000 prize pool. The Open sold out with a waiting list.

This guide explains what the APPT is, what happened at the two Bangkok editions, how amateur players enter, what a tournament weekend at Pad Thai Padel feels like and how to follow the next one.

The Asia Pacific Padel Tour (APPT) is the region's professional padel circuit. It describes itself as the tour uniting Asia Pacific's top talent and passionate communities, and it runs a season-long calendar across Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, Pakistan and the Philippines.

Events come in three tiers: Grand Slams, the top tier with prize pools of US$13,000 or more and ranking points in every draw, Challengers and Opens. Each tournament offers men's, women's and mixed draws for both professional and amateur players, and the tour maintains separate professional and amateur rankings. For the 2026 season it added club team rankings, so results at Bangkok count towards a season-long club competition as well as individual points.

The APPT Bangkok Open in February 2025 opened the tour's season. The draw filled and the tournament sold out with a waiting list, players came from across the region and beyond, and matches ran all weekend across the club's three courts.

• Men's Pro: Marc Bernils and Sergi Nogueras beat Raul Marcos and Sergio Alba 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 in a final that followed a 14-team qualifying draw.
• Women's Pro: Alena Vasileva and Angelina Neizvestnaya beat Joanna Tao Yee Tan and Mariam Yasmin Garsin 7-5, 6-2.
• Mixed Pro: Tim Brown and Irina Chernaya, who dropped only five games all tournament.
• Men's Amateur: Pad Thai Padel coach Filippo Simeoni with Alexandre Wuille.
• Women's Amateur: Larissa Lim and Angela Lim, 6-2, 6-1 in the final.
• Mixed Amateur: Angela Lim and Dhivesh Dadlani, unbeaten through the draw.

The tour's own report called it a spectacular start to the season, and singled out the entertainment as much as the padel: a Thai drag show on centre court and a Muay Thai display before the men's final.

Eleven months later the club hosted the tour's Grand Slam tier. The Pad Thai Padel Grand Slam ran from 15 to 18 January 2026 with a total professional prize pool of US$13,000, split US$10,000 for the men and US$3,000 for the women. The men's winners took US$4,000, the runners-up US$2,000, semi-finalists US$1,000 and quarter-finalists US$500. The women's winners received US$1,500, the runners-up US$800 and semi-finalists US$350.

The draw filled across six categories, professional and amateur men's, women's and mixed, with an international field. HEAD supplied the official ball, the Head Pro S+, JOMA provided the kit and welcome pack of a t-shirt and shorts, and Dafanews and Tactical completed the partner line-up. Amateur winners received Joma rackets, shoes, bags and backpacks. Looking back a fortnight later, the club summed it up as three days of unmatched energy.

You do not need a professional ranking to play an APPT event. Each tournament runs amateur men's, women's and mixed draws alongside the professional ones, with ranking points on offer in every category and consolation draws so that a first-round loss still means more matches.

For the Bangkok Grand Slam the APPT tournament page listed entry at US$65 for professional draws and US$75 for amateur draws, with registration closing on 11 January 2026, four days before play began. Entries are made through the APPT website, and the tour also sells a season pass. Check the tournament page for the current fee, deadline and any level requirement before you enter, as terms can change between editions.

If you are unsure which draw suits you, your level in The Padel Society app is a good guide. Players in the Silver and Gold bands (2.5 and above) will get competitive matches in the amateur draws; below that, the club's weekly Americanos and the Pad Thai Padel Championship league are the better route in.

A Grand Slam turns the club into a four-day festival.Matches run on all three courts from the Thursday afternoon amateur rounds to the Sunday finals, and the bar becomes the natural place to watch. The finals are played on centre court in front of a full house, and the entertainment is built into the programme: the Bangkok Open had a Thai drag show on centre court and a Muay Thai display before the men's final, and the weekend closes with a party.The finals are played on centre court, and the tournament page listed an official party on the final night. The tour is also where the academy's coaches compete. Miguel Gonzalez, a coach and pro player in Bali, and Adrian Ronco, the academy pro player who competes for Pad Thai Padel on the Premier Padel circuit, are both listed as APPT Grand Slam winners with Pad Thai Padel in 2026. Eli Estrada, who coaches in Bangkok, is an APPT Grand Slam winner. Carlota Estrada, who joins the Bangkok academy in September 2026, won the women's professional title at the Prime Padel Pattaya Grand Slam in July 2026 according to the APPT results.

That matters for students. The Pad Thai Padel Academy plans training blocks around the tour calendar, and the Growth and Performance plans include tournament support, so if you want to enter an amateur draw your coach can help you prepare for it.

The APPT publishes its calendar and results on its website, and tournament pages open for registration several weeks before play. The club announces its own dates on Instagram at @padthaipadel and on the events page, where you can also find the weekly Americanos, the DEUCE Competition Night and the Championship league if you want match practice before entering. Bookings for regular court time during tournament weeks are limited, so plan ahead.
